Teratogens are substances that cause some miscarriages and birth defects. If you are actively trying to get pregnant or you are currently pregnant, please avoid them. Here’s the list I pulled from pp 14-15 of Herbal from the Childbearing Year by Susun S. Weed.

Coffee Body Scrub


Whether you drink coffee or practice coffee enemas, don’t throw away your used coffee grounds. Use them to make a body scrub by following these directions.

1. Dry the grounds in a dehydrator or for a few days in the oven. Don’t turn the oven on, of course.

2. Store the dried grounds in an airtight mason jar until you’re ready to make the body scrub.

3. Once you’re ready to make the scrub, mix a cup of the coffee grounds with either a cup of turbinado or a cup of pink salt and 1/2 cup of grapeseed, jojoba, or macadamia nut oil. Feel free to add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Some people add shea butter or coconut oil. Totally up to you.

4. Blend the mixture in a high powered blender to get a creamy texture. Feel free to add a little more oil, if needed.

5. Scoop into an airtight mason jar.

6. Store in the fridge. It should last for at least two weeks.

Flower Power Hair Mask


This amazing hair mask will condition and strengthen your hair while giving it some natural color at the same time. Enjoy and share pics!


1/8 cup Hibiscus powder

1/4 cup pure henna powder

A few drops of rosemary essential oil

A few drops of lemongrass essential oil

Enough hot purified water to make it like a pancake batter.


Put on some gloves, old clothes and surround yourself with old sheets and or towels. This stuff stains. It’s natural dye.

Mix the ingredients well.

Apply to your hair and put on a plastic cap.

Put on your thermal cap and allow it to sit for one hour. Without a thermal cap, an hour and a half. You can keep it in for up to four hours for deeper conditioning and a longer lasting color.

Rinse it out extremely well. If the herbal smell is too much for you, you can shampoo it with a mild, sulfate free shampoo

10 Tips for a Natural Hair Detox

A bunch of folks are inboxing me about my thoughts on which products are best for natural hair (for those of African descent) so I thought I would write a blog post.
Here’s my story. My hair fell out due to anesthesia from a C-section and post partum hormone imbalance. I stopped relaxing my hair and wore a short cut because I had no idea what else to do with it. One day, I decided to take a chance and let it grow out. I developed an expensive habit, though. I became a product junkie. My addiction was so deep that I would spend all of my extra money on products. At one point, my niece would be waiting for a monthly bag of products because she knew I would give her those I tried and didn’t like. During this process, I developed another habit. I became a You Tube hair video junkie. I tried every style under the sun so I also learned what my hair would and would not do.
After getting tired of flaky products that never lived up to their promises and a bunch of styles gone wrong, I decided to go on a natural hair detox. My goal was to use no store bought products and minimal styling. At first, my hair was a hot mess because I didn’t know what I was doing. As I developed my own regimen, I liked what I saw and I’ve finally found my groove. Now, I only use two store bought products occassionally – Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel when I’ve used all of the leaves from my aloe vera plant and Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave in Conditioner when I feel my hair needs a little something different. Everything else is food and I like it that way.
I’d like to share 10 tips to help you if you decide to try a Natural Hair Detox.
1. Know that hair is not dead protein. Forget everything you’ve been taught about your hair in high school health class. It’s not dead. It’s an extension of our nervous system and should be treated as such. Metaphysically, each strand of hair is an antennae that conducts subtle energy from the cosmos to you and vice versa.
2. Limit your use of store bought products. If you are using store-bought products, they should be free of parabens, synthetic fragrances, propylene glycol, phthalates, triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) / sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), formaldehyde, toulene, benzophenone, PABA, avobenzone, homosalate, ethoxycinnmate, and any other synthetic chemical.
3. Limit your use of hair dye. Henna, black walnut hulls, chamomile tea, and indigo (well, there’s a great deal of controversy with indigo dye) are great for hair coloring. I no longer color my hair. And you know how much I love hair color. The last time I colored it, I got sick and couldn’t figure out why. Then I learned about how the color seeps into skin and may cause cancer and other illnesses.
4. Water is the moisture your hair craves. We’ve been taught that oils and butters are what we need to moisturize our hair. We’ve also been told to limit hair washing. Simply not true. In the summer or when I’m working out daily, I either wash or wet my hair every single day. You’ve all seen my hair so you know it’s beautiful. The cleaner my hair is, the better my styles are. Most of us can’t get the water we need because our hair is coated with residue from all of the store-bought products. It’s a good idea to wash your hair at least weekly if not more often with a natural shampoo that’s clarifying yet doesn’t strip your hair of its natural oils. For me, it’s liquid black soap. My hair loves it and it loves my hair back.
5. Detangle your hair. I detangle my hair with my fingers however you can invest in a detangling brush. I also have a secret. Our new house came with a water softening system that cuts the job in half. Also, our shower filter is amazing. I no longer use conditioner to detangle my hair. Just good old water and my fingers. This is also the reason I flat twist or two strand twist my hair. To prevent tangles. Tangles = breakage. While I love my beautiful afro, I find that my hair breaks off more in this style. If you feel you need a conditioner, there are some great natural options like marshmallow root infusion.
6. Moisture needs to be sealed. While water is the moisture your hair craves, it must be sealed in. You can seal in that water moisture with natural stuff like a tiny bit of jojoba oil, macadamia nut oil, extra virgin olive oil, or black castor oil. My hair strands are fine and they prefer aloe vera gel as the sealant. I used to use coconut oil and ended up having some really bad experiences in cold weather. Then I learned that coconut oil is a moisturizer, not a sealant. Also, coconut oil gets hard at a certain temperature. Let’s just say I live in Ohio and in the winter when I used coconut oil, my hair was as hard as a rock whenever I was outside longer than 10 minutes. Not cool!

7. Deep conditioning is a good idea. Heat helps nutrients penetrate the hair shaft. Bananas, avocados, irish moss make a great deep conditioner. I love to deep condition with a blend of  avocado, irish moss, and rosemary essential oil. I wash my hair with my liquid black soap, mix it the ingredients, put the blend on my hair, put on a plastic cap, and sit under the thermal cap for 3o minutes. Then I rinse, detangle, and style as usual. I used to do this once per week. Now, I do it whenever I feel led to do so.

8. Use food as your hair gel. There are a million YouTube videos about using flaxseed, marshmallow root, and agar agar gel. I’ve tried them all and love them all. At the same time, I rarely use them because I don’t do styles that require gel too often. Maybe one day, I’ll start getting more creative with my hair styles.
9. Protect your hair at night. Whether you wear a satin or silk scarf or your simply sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase, be sure to protect your hair at night. I find that sleeping on any other type of material causes my hair to break and look dull.
10. Feed your hair internally. Eat lots of fruit and veggies and drink lots of purified alkaline water. Muddy water, irish moss shakes, and G Juice will bless your tresses with nutrient love, too.
As I’ve been on this natural hair journey, I have learned so much and as a result, my hair has flourished and has even transformed as a result of limiting exposure to toxic chemicals and heavy metals. I don’t promote any of the fast hair growth supplements on the market either. I encourage you to experiment by trying some of the suggestions I shared above and let me know how it works for you.

Yummy Plant Based Broth



6 cups purified water

1 bag frozen stir fry vegetables (or fresh soup vegetables of your choice)

1/2 diced red onion

1 clove garlic

3 portabella mushroom caps, diced

1/8 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/8 teaspoon black pepper

1/8 teaspoon pink Himalayan salt (adjust to your own taste)

Dash or two of cayenne and/or chipotle peppers

2 tablespoons coconut liquid aminos

1 tablespoon Irish moss gel

1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil


1. Mix water, vegetables, mushrooms, and seasoning in a glass or stainless steel pot. Adjust the spices according to your taste.

2. Bring to a rapid boil and cook for one hour.

3. Turn off heat.

4. Add liquid coconut aminos, irish moss gel, and extra virgin olive oil to the broth.

5. Mix with a whisk.

6. Place a lid on the pot and allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes.

7. Serve as is or use as a base for a pot of greens or pho. You can strain it or leave the veggies and shrooms in.

Prepare for the Cold Season When Its Warm


Before this cold season gets going, get or do the following stuff. Preparation is the key.

1. Mullein and garlic oil

2. Netipot and enema bag

3. Eucalyptus and camphor essential oil

4. Egyptian blackseed oil

5. Elderberries

6. Raw honey

7. Keep lemons and limes in the fridge for you water, teas, and infusions.

8. Make vegetable broth and freeze it.

9. Mullein, red clover, blue vervain, alfalfa and Kalawalla organic and non GMO herbs.

10. Irish moss aka sea moss.

11. Turmeric, ginger, and basil


Red Roasted Pepper Hummus


1 16 oz container cooked garbanzo beans (use the aquafana (garbanzo bean juice, too)
1 red pepper
1/4 red onion
1/8 tablespoon cumin
1/8 tablespoon cayenne or chipotle seasoning                                                          2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil           1/8 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/8 tablespoon black pepper
1/8 tablespoon garlic powder (a fresh clove is better)                                            Juice of 1/2 of a lemon or lime
Pink salt to taste

Sliced veggies like carrots, cucumbers, celery, zucchini sticks, or large romaine lettuce wraps – These will be used as dippers or wraps

I don’t use tahini. Feel free to add that in if you like.

Blend all ingredients (except for veggies you’ll use for dipping or wrapping) in a high powered blender. I don’t really roast the red peppers. Ha!

Place in a pan on the stove and cook on low for about 5 mins. If you like it raw (well, the veggies, since the beans are already cooked) skip this step.

Adjust the seasoning to your liking.

Scoop the hummus into a covered container of your choice.

Let the hummus cool on the counter for 15 mins.

Refrigerate for an hour.

Serve with the veggies.


Savory Pasta and Shrooms



1 cup roasted butternut squash

1 cup chopped portabella mushroom

1/2 box Kamut Spiral pasta

3/4 cup unsweetened and unflavoured almond milk (I prefer canary seed milk)

1/4 cup nutritional yeast, or more to taste

3/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon red onion powder

1/2 teaspoon chipotle powder

1/2 teaspoon cumin powder

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

2 teaspoons Dijon mustard, optional

1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon pink salt to taste

Ground black pepper, to taste

1 teaspoon Grapeseed oil

Feel free to add greens, spinach, red peppers, or other yummy veggies.


Boil pasta according to directions on the box.

Boil butternut squash until tender.

Sautee portabella mushrooms (and other veggies, if applcable) in grapeseed oil.

Mix butternut squash, nutritional yeast, and spices in a high powered blender.

Drain pasta once it’s finished boiling.

Mix pasta, mushrooms, veggies, and sauce.

Plate it and serve it.








Mama Reeci’s Spicy Kale Chips


OMG!!! Kale chips will always be Bae.


1 1/2 bunches of kale
1 cup cashews
2-3 tbsps fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice
2 tbsps nutritional yeast
1/4 cup roasted red bell pepper
1 teaspoon ground chipotle chili pepper    1 teaspoon smoke paprika
1/2 teaspoon pink Himalayan sea salt
A pinch of cayenne pepper

1. Soak cashews in hot water for 2 hours.

2. Wash the kale, remove the stems, and tear into medium size pieces

3. Add all ingredients expect the kale to a high powered blender or food processor.

4. Process until the consistency is smooth. You may need to a a tablespoon of water or so.

5. Massage sauce onto kale with hands.

6. Dehydrate at 115 degrees for 10-12 hours or until crispy.

Fast, Detox, Cleanse, Vaccines and Immunizations

Vaccine Detox


In the world of growing mandatory vaccine requirements, it’s important to focus on great health before and after the vaccination(s).  Your body must be properly hydrated AND filled with nutrients to ensure that the vaccine and it’s residue can be eliminated from your body. Consider the following before and after detox.

WHAT SHOULD I EAT? A liquid fast at least one week prior to and 2-3 weeks after the vaccination is the best option. Here’s a guide to help you with the preparation. If a liquid fast is too much, feast on fruit, veggies, mushrooms, and Irish moss during the suggested time frame mentioned above.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE?                                                                                     Consider two days of eating nothing but watermelon and Irish moss water or smoothies. This will pump your body full of the zinc and other nutrients you need to fight off the effects of the thirmerosal (aka mercury, a heavy metal) and other harmful chemicals in the vaccine cocktail. During this time, hydrate with half your body weight in ounces of water or at a gallon, whichever is more.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER THE VACCINE?                                                                                 1. Drink water infused with lemon and/or lime juice. This helps pump your body full of the vitamin C you need to detox and heal. you’ll need half your body weight in ounces or a gallon, whichever is more.

2. Drink liquid bentonite clay. Sonne’s #7 liquid clay along with high fiber foods is an excellent option. Follow the directions on the bottle. This will help push the thimerosal into your blood stream.

3. Help the heavy metal leave your body by consuming the following beverages, food  or tinctures throughout the day.

Gorilla juice: 8 oz of purified water, 2 oz of chlorella, one fresh juiced/squeezed lemon or lime and a pinch or two of real green stevia powder OR take chlorella tablets.

Appleade: Juice 1 fresh lemon or lime and 1 fresh apple for week (great option for babies).

Milk thistle: Make an 8 oz. infusion with the dried herbs. Drink one each day.

Burdock root: Make an 8 oz. infusion with the dried herbs. Drink one each day.

Sarsaparilla: Make an 8 oz. infusion with a handful of the dried root. Drink one each day OR take a dropper full of a sarsaparilla tincture.

Turmeric: Drink a mixture of hot water, turmeric powder, and stevia once or twice throughout the day. This will also help decrease the inflammation that is a result of the vaccine’s response to increase the number of antibodies in the system.

Cilantro: Sprinkle raw cilantro in soups and on salads or make a guacamole dip.

4. Get vitamin B6 nutrients in your body by eating bell peppers, steamed spinach, baked potatoes with the skin, green peas, yams, broccoli, asparagus, turnip greens, nuts and seeds.

5. Get magnesium in your body by ingesting Brazil nuts (1 each day, has selenium too), steamed spinach, and pumpkin.

6. Stop eating by 7 pm each evening. This practice gives your body time to heal.

7. Get sleep. Go to bed by 9:30 pm each evening. This practice gives your body time to heal.
